Welcome Home

It's getting harder to come back to St Louis after being in Alabama.  I'm not sure I want to expound on that much right now, but I was surprised yesterday that the tears were so eager to fall.  Then this morning we woke up to snow.  My kids said, "But it turned spring on March 21!"  Yes, but the calendar doesn't control the weather.  Welcome home, dears.

We really did have a great time--dinners with all the family, Connor's soccer game, wonderful worship with our Faith Pres family, celebrating Lillian's birthday with an old-school Sunday night b'day dinner at the Browns that my parents came for, hiking and riding 4wheelers at my parents, playing in the sprinkler and riding bikes, fishing till we were sunburned with Dad (twice), Yogurt Lab, Krispy Kreme, CFA, a Mexican dinner, a lunch date with Brian to Mudtown in Cahaba Heights (we got the fried green tomatoes we'd been craving but missed at Christmas), and Granda's grilled burgers, new Easter shoes, playing at the parks, feeding the ducks, going through the car wash, discovering Urban Green, a play date at the Butlers, learning Madeline's cheerleading dances, playing hard with Andrew, being outside as much as possible because the weather was PERFECT...

We'll go back in July.

I've known re-entry would be hard.  It's just hard here, generally speaking.  But it makes breaks like this week so much sweeter.  It was a true blessing to my soul to rest and enjoy the time in Alabama.  Again, not sure what to do with that now, but I can say I'm more eager to go back than ever before.

Packin'

Going to Alabama for some of Spring Break, and the weather will call for shorts.  I pulled out last year's stash of spring/summer clothes, and I'm thrilled to say all the shorts are bigger now than they were at the end of last summer.  Yay!  How motivating to keep on working toward my goal weight--the one on my driver's license.  I gave in the last 2 nights and had dessert (could I really pass up my own child's birthday cake?), but I'm now back on the wagon.  Feelin' skinny in the shorts was just the shot in the arm I needed, especially considering it's not as easy to eat well on the road.  So I'll be packin' some healthy snacks for the ride along with the shorts that fit so well!

Snooze

In honor of our /oo/ words today, I took a nap--er, snooze--today in the sun.  I even rolled up my jeans and sleeves.  The kids were playing kindly in the backyard with me and let me rest for a good 10 or 15 minutes.  What a great treat!

Accumulating snow on Monday, 77 on Thursday.  Nuts, but I'll sure take it today!!

Priorities...

Song for a 5th Child

“Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing and butter the bread,
Sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.”

I totally robbed this from a comment on my friend's blog, but this is too precious to not read.  You know, just in case you haven't heard it before.  And even if you don't have 5 children!

Alive Mag

Last week a rep from Alive magazine, a local publication, called because they are featuring St. Louis Adventure Bootcamp in their April issue as a group exercise option for women.  Awesome news, and completely unsolicited.  We are excited to see what happens.

The photographer was supposed to meet me this morning at 5:15 before camp to talk about what shots she wanted, etc.  But she didn't show!  I had even recruited some friends to come to camp just for this morning so it would shoot well.  Thanks to Marne and Katie for coming!

Maybe she'll come Friday??  I hope they still use us!

We're All In!

Found out last Thurs that the girls are enrolled at Covenant Christian School for the 2011-12 school year in 2nd and 3rd grades.  Found out today that I got the job at the school.  I'll be an aide in the MWF Little Pelicans class--that's 3yo's.  Also, Patrick will be enrolled in JrK which meets every afternoon.  He will therefore also be enrolled in Above and Beyond MWF mornings while I'm working.

Check this out:
M--everyone goes to school together.  Once I get off at noon, Lillian and I are alone till pick-up.
T--girls go all day; take P at noon; Lillian and I are alone till pick-up.
W--everyone goes to school together.  Once I get off at noon, Lillian and I are alone till pick-up.
H--girls go all day; take P at noon; Lillian and I are alone till pick-up.
F--everyone goes to school together.  Once I get off at noon, Lillian and I are alone till pick-up.

Wait!  Did you see what every single afternoon looks like??  Did you see I'll have only one child with me EVERY SINGLE AFTERNOON?  I know, I know, the time will fly and I won't get as much done as I need to, blah, blah, blah.  Bottom line is I will have a break.  Every day.  I can't imagine what that will be like.  Really, what will I do?  Take a walk?  Grocery shop?  Clean house?  Why, yes I will.  Alone too, if Lillian's asleep.  It will have been a long 2 years.

Yes, I also realize these changes will bring with them a whole new set of struggles and frustrations.  It's OK.  I'll be better able to handle it for having some time away, right?  Right!
